Lordi is a hard rock/heavy metal band from Finland, and winners of the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. They are known for their monster costumes and lyrical themes. The monster masks and costumes the band use are made of foam latex. The masks were first cast and then glued together piece by piece.
Lordi have stated their costumes have been inspired by KISS. The costumes have also drawn comparisons to the shock rock group GWAR, who wear similar foam latex monster outfits, even though their musical styles are quite different.
In Finland the choice was criticised by some and a group of religious leaders went as far as calling President Halonen to veto their entry. |
In 1998, Ozzfest ventured outside the US to the United Kingdom first at the Milton Keynes Bowl. Most of the time, Ozzfest is held in large, outdoor stadiums, due to the large number of attendants.
The most dominant features of the metalhead culture is the "Il Cornuto" hand-signal formed by a fist with the pinky and index fingers extended, known variously as the "devil´s horns", the "metal fist" and other similar descriptors.
Ozzfest is an annual tour of the United States featuring performances by many heavy metal groups. It is organized by Ozzy Osbourne and his wife, Sharon Osbourne. On-stage footage of the Ozzfest 2004 tour was shown on MTV. They hosted a show titled Battle for Ozzfest where Ozzy and Sharon chose eight out of hundreds of bands to compete for a spot on the following years Ozzfest. He and wife Sharon starred in yet another MTV show, this time a competition reality show entitled "Battle for Ozzfest". A number of yet unsigned bands send one member to compete in a challenge to win a spot on the 2005 Ozzfest and a possible recording contract. |
